September 30, 2018 – Beyond Yoga Basics

A steady yoga practice will help you build strength, flexibility, balance, focus and inner peace. Beyond Yoga Basics is a 3.0 hour-long small-group session. You will receive individualized attention as well as the tools you need to participate confidently in group classes … maybe even take a little yoga home!
Beyond Yoga Basics will familiarize students with the foundational flow of yoga practice, “Surya Namaskara” or Sun Salutations. Surya Namaskara is as rich in symbolic and mythic overtones as it is in physical benefits. We will cover the history, break down the asanas and breath work. Breath work (pranayama) and energetic practices will also be taught so you can confidently participate in group classes and build a home practice.

Whether you are a beginner looking to build confidence or an experienced yogi looking to improve your practice, this workshop is for you. Yoga reminds you to be patient with yourself. Yoga allows you to be in a room full of people of all ages with all levels of experience, and everyone taking their own private journey.

The workshop will include:

Breakdown of Sun Salutations

Breakdown of accompanying asanas such as Warriors

Breakdown of three important breaths used in class: ujjayi, dirga and nadi shodhana (alternate nostril breath)

Instruction to the bandhas, their use and importance in asana practice.

Yoga is about being kind to your body, being kind to yourself and it’s a very individual and private journey. I don’t know anyone who is unable to take that journey.

November 3, 2018 – Opening New Paths: Developing Your Personal Practice

Many of us mean to meditate more often, we really do. Many of us intend to do 15 minutes of sun salutations before work. While only you can actually put in the work, let Jacquie Stephens, E-RYT 200, YACEP, teach you methods and philosophies that will help you develop or deepen your personal practice.

A personal practice is beneficial to everyone. It helps keep you grounded. Yoga helps control stress, alleviate physical pain and discomfort, can help lower blood pressure. A personal practice means different things to everyone but ask any yoga student and they will tell you that their personal practice is the cornerstone of their lives. Developing or strengthening a personal practice can be the difference between practicing yoga as an exercise and learning to apply yoga to your lifestyle.

You will leave the workshop with asana practices to take home and try, meditations long and short, breath work and philosophy that can guide you through life with less stress and more confidence.
